Guest Stories

Two friends from England, both in their mid-sixties, came to Montenegro with a larger group of 60 travelers—but they had their own special plan. By day, they wanted adventure; by evening, they were devoted to playing bridge, their favorite card game. Their goal was simple yet ambitious: seven days of hiking around the Bay of Kotor, while returning each night to the same hotel.

Together, we designed a daily program of hikes ranging from 5 to 16 kilometers, each offering a new perspective of Montenegro’s stunning landscapes. We explored the towering peaks of Mount Orjen, wandered through Austro-Hungarian fortresses above Perast and Risan, climbed the historic San Giovanni fortress, and marveled at the beauty of Lovćen National Park. We also trekked Mount Vrmac and the scenic trails of Luštica Peninsula.

The days were filled with laughter, stories, and endless chatter. Their humor—quintessentially English—added a lighthearted rhythm to even the steepest climbs. Every turn revealed breathtaking views of the bay, the mountains, and the sparkling Adriatic, turning each hike into a feast for the senses.

By night, the cards came out, and the two friends would settle into their evening bridge games, recounting the day’s adventures and planning for tomorrow’s trek. It was a week of balance: challenge and relaxation, exploration and companionship.

For us, guiding such spirited travelers is a joy. Watching friendships deepen over mountain trails and card tables alike reminded us that travel is as much about people as it is about places. And this particular week? It was unforgettable.

Twenty German friends, all in their forties, have known each other since high school. Married, living in different cities, with busy careers and their own families, they still maintain an unbreakable bond. Every year, they choose a new country for a long weekend together, keeping their friendship alive through shared adventures.

One year, they chose Montenegro—and we were tasked with crafting an itinerary that matched their energy. These were not travelers seeking history or old towns. Their goal was simple: fun, sun, swimming, and active experiences.

Based in Budva, Montenegro’s liveliest coastal town filled with bars and nightlife, the group dove straight into adventure. One day we went rafting; another, they rented a speedboat to explore the Bay of Kotor and swim in its crystal waters. They zipped through tree-top courses and visited a private winery, combining adrenaline and relaxation perfectly.

To our surprise—and delight—two years later, the same group returned to Montenegro, choosing the same destination over countless others. This time, they explored the untouched corners of Lake Skadar National Park by kayak, toured a local family winery, and took a cable car up Mount Lovćen. From the summit, they looked over the Bay of Kotor as if flying. The final thrill: a speedboat adventure to the Blue Cave, where laughter, music, and pure fun echoed across the water.

It was a celebration of friendship in its truest form: loud music, endless jokes, and shared experiences that bind people together. In a world where lifelong connections are rare, these friends are a living testament to the power of camaraderie—and Montenegro provided the perfect playground.

A few years ago, eight travelers from Latvia—four couples aged between 60 and 70, long-time friends and seasoned explorers—reached out to us. Many years ago, they had traveled along the Adriatic coast in the former Yugoslavia, but that had been Croatia. This time, they were determined to finally discover Montenegro.

They booked direct flights themselves and had a simple request: they wanted to stay on the coast, in an authentic, quiet location far from tourist crowds. They wanted to truly relax, sleep well, enjoy delicious local food, and see the country—without extravagance, but with comfort and authenticity.

This trip was also a first for them in another way: they decided to trust a full-service concierge approach. In the past, they had always planned their travels themselves—a process that took enormous time, energy, and attention, often leaving one of the group members responsible for the entire organization and unable to fully relax. This time, everything was taken care of—from airport pickup to tailored daily excursions—and they were absolutely thrilled.

Upon arrival, a private guide-driver met them at the airport, settled them into seaside apartments with a pool, and remained at their disposal for the entire week. Every day, the group explored Montenegro’s highlights, returning by late afternoon to their peaceful base in the Bay of Kotor—a UNESCO-protected area, scenic and authentic, yet removed from the crowds of cruise ships in Kotor itself. Each evening, the guide recommended restaurants, and we made reservations at different locations to ensure a variety of experiences and flavors.

Their days were filled with unforgettable excursions: cruising the Bay of Kotor, visiting Lovćen and Durmitor National Parks, enjoying a scenic boat trip on Lake Skadar, and an adrenaline-packed rafting adventure, followed by lunch at a glacial lake. They also visited a family-run winery producing traditional Montenegrin wines from indigenous grape varieties found nowhere else in the world.

By the end of the trip, the group was completely enchanted by Montenegro. They had discovered how effortless and relaxing a fully organized travel experience could be, while still enjoying adventure, culture, and authentic local life. The combination of comfort, discovery, and thoughtful service made this a week they will remember forever—and we continue to stay in touch, sharing memories of their unforgettable Montenegrin escape.

A young couple reached out to us through mutual friends. It was their first time traveling to Montenegro, a country they had never visited before—and their trip carried special meaning. They were combining their vacation with two important celebrations: their wedding anniversary and the husband’s birthday.

From the very beginning, the request was clear. The week had to feel romantic, effortless, and memorable. They wanted panoramic routes, scenic viewpoints, beautiful beaches, and restaurants with breathtaking views. Excursions needed to be engaging yet relaxed—designed to enjoy the moment rather than rush through sights.

For their wedding anniversary, we created a truly special day: a private yacht cruise in the Bay of Kotor, live music, and a videographer capturing the most emotional moments of their journey. Throughout the week, the couple traveled with individual transfers and a private guide, allowing them to fully relax while every detail was taken care of. During the yacht day, they swam in hidden spots and enjoyed lunch at one of Montenegro’s finest restaurants, surrounded by unforgettable scenery.

At the end of their trip, the couple received a professionally edited video—a beautiful keepsake of their Montenegrin escape and a reminder of a week filled with romance, celebration, and discovery. Montenegro became more than just a destination; it became part of their shared story.

A group of 14 people from New York reached out to us to organize a tour of the Bay of Kotor, with a special visit to the small town of Risan. What we didn’t know at the time was that this would turn into a remarkable family story.

The head of the family, a man in his 90s, brought several generations of his family all the way from New York to Montenegro. Their goal? To visit the very house where he was born. His parents, originally from Risan in the Bay of Kotor—a small town nestled at the foot of the mountains—had married and emigrated to America. They returned briefly to Montenegro to visit relatives, and it was during that summer that this man was born.

The outbreak of World War I forced his parents to stay in the town for some time before they finally received emigration documents and returned to the United States. Decades later, this man dreamed of returning to Montenegro, and finally, that dream was about to come true.

During that day, we explored the classic Bay of Kotor program and made our way to Risan. There, we met his cousin—whom he had found on Facebook—who had carefully preserved all family letters and photographs over the years. The reunion was deeply emotional, intimate, and incredibly moving for the entire family.

For us, as someone showing this beautiful country to visitors, being able to help someone fulfill a lifelong dream like this is a true privilege and one of the most rewarding experiences of my work.
